Top 4 Social Media Tips For Small Business

Social media marketing is a huge opportunity for small businesses to connect with customers, grow brand awareness and drive sales. However, doing it the wrong way can damage your brand reputation.

Like any other form of marketing, social media for small businesses can be a real challenge. It’s difficult to create great content, increase engagement and grow an audience.

I've seen small business owners give up on social media after just a few months. Yet, social media is the easiest way for meeting new people via online networking and organically grow your brand.

Whether you’re just getting started or have been active on social media platforms for years, there’s always room for improvement.

I share with you my top four (4) social media tips that will help improve your online presence.

#1 Plan, Be Committed and Set Social Media Goals

The first thing that you can do for your small business to find success is to make a commitment to social media.

Austrian-born American management consultant, educator, and author, Peter F. Drucker said: “Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.”

You need a good plan to stay committed. Create a social media strategy and write it down in order to hold your business accountable.

#2 Give It Your Time

Social media is time-consuming, for you to get the best out of it, you need to give it your time. Making time for social media can be hard. But, to get the best out of it, you have to be committed to it (like I mentioned above).

You must create time to write quality contents, promote it and create time to respond to questions including airing your views (comments) on other similar pages.

#3 Choose The Best Platform

Set priorities on the platform(s) you will use to execute each of the plans you've set. You cannot be on every platform. Decide on the platform that suits your type of business. Set goals, and most importantly, agree with yourself on what you count as success. Is it brand awareness? Is it sales? You have to decide!

#4 Be Real and Stay Real

Remember, social media is social, people will not want to connect with your brand if they do not connect to your content like they will connect to a friend. You must bring the human out of the brand.

Your contents shouldn't be all about sales only, instead, focus on helping people. People connect to those who propose bits of help than those who are out to make sales.

Your contents should be to help people, provide solutions to problems, educate your audience, leading them to make smart choices. Doing this will make people trust you. When you've gained their trust, you've made more than sales.
